Many of us have our own idea of what sexual health is. After all, we are sexual beings.

Some think it is not having any diseases, being able to talk about sex openly, having sex so it is not uncomfortable, to have sex with out guilt, and so on. However the WHO (World Health Organization) has a great explanation of what Sexual Health really means.

The World Health Organization defines sexual health as: a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.

It makes me sad in this day and age that we have to explain sexual health as being free of coercion, discrimination and violence. Sex is something that should be enjoyed between 2 (or more) consenting adults. This act of pleasure should be enjoyed, even celebrated as it is great for your over all health. Not to be ashamed of or something to hide away from. People should be able to talk to their partner about the things you like and dislike without feeling like they are inadequate or being judged.

The one thing that I have learned from working in the stores is that NO 2 people are the same in their likes and dislikes when it comes to sex. Ever body is different even though we seem to be all the same . . . we are not!!!
